Ecology at Cirencester Golf Club

Fortunate to have such a stunning site with a diverse ecology, the club is very active in not only maintaining, but enhancing the ecosystem.  Large swathes of calcarious grassland are mixed with woodland, and the fauna and flora that inhabit the site are wide and varied, as can be witnessed through the club’s ecology report.  Members take an active interest in helping to capture what is on the course.

We see this as more than just a Golf Course and we hope that anyone coming to Cirencester will enjoy and appreciate the unique environment.

Winners:  The Golf Environment Awards 2022 – Environmental Project of the Year!

The project that saw us claim the prize, was the work carried out in improving the habitat on certain areas of the course for the very rare “Duke of Burgundy Butterfly”.  There have been several sightings of this variety of Butterfly on the course, so the work is clearly proving successful. We were also nominated in another category – Operation Pollinator and were one of only three clubs nominated in more than one category.
This is a great achievement for our Greenkeeping Team and vindication for the work that has gone into the Ecology side of the Golf Course.  Well done Rich, Matt, Jake, Nigel, Pete, Ian and Callum!  A big thanks must also go to James Hutchinson for his assistance and Ian Grainge from the Royal Agricultural University.
In our category were some significant clubs, including two international clubs, Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore and PGA Catalunya in Spain.  A big scalp for little old Cirencester!
