CIRENCESTER GOLF CLUB – ‘A’ TEAM 2011

The ‘A’ Team play in the North Gloucestershire Foursomes League (NGFL). The NGFL was founded some 50 years ago and is divided into 3 divisions. Following successive promotions we are now back in Division 1 for 2011.

The ‘A’ Team squad for this year is:

Generally speaking, players must have a handicap of 7 or less to be considered for the ‘A’ Team squad. Any junior achieving a handicap of 9 or better will be considered for inclusion in the squad.

‘A’ TEAM

Match Versus:  STINCHCOMBE HILL

Date: 3 September 2011             Result: Lost 5 - 1    

The ‘A’ Team had a slim chance of avoiding relegation back to Div 2 of the North Gloucestershire Foursomes League if they could beat Stinchcombe Hill. They would then be relying on Lilley Brook not winning home against Gloucester. In the end neither part of the equation came about.

The partnership of Hamish Mason and Darren Robison had their last outing together and looked as if they would sign off with a win as they were 2 up at the turn. But some poor shots on the back nine saw them go down 3 & 1.

Steve Bishop and Pete Stone put their vast experience together at 2 and looked if they would record a victory as they were 2 up after 15. Regrettably they lost the final 3 holes and their match. The old partnership of Richard Louisson and Tom Stone never really recovered from losing the first 3 holes and eventually succumbed 4 & 2.

With his normal partner being away Charlie Harraway teamed up with debutant Mitch Caunt. Although only 1 up at the turn they then stormed to a 5 & 4 victory.

Nicholas Brown and Simon May had one of their off days and although in touch for most of the afternoon couldn’t get their ‘A’ game going. They capitulated on the 17^th.

This just left Matt Page and Nick Brown on the course, but having trailed for most of the afternoon they also came up short losing on the 18^th.

A disappointing end to a very disappointing season. The team will need to consider what changes need to made next year to re-establish themselves within the NGFL.
