Press Report 15th January
A very special occasion was held on Thursday 12 January 2012 at Cirencester Golf Club, when both past and present lady members met to celebrate Dorothy Clark’s 90th birthday.
Cheshire in 1966. After moving to Cirencester with her husband Norman in the 1970’s, they joined Cirencester Golf Club, where in 1983, she became Lady Captain. In 2007, at the age of 83, Dorothy won the W S Morrison Trophy with a nett 66 at Cirencester Golf Club Open Day.
Ladies’ Captain Jane Muncer presented Dorothy with a flower and gift vouchers. Dorothy

A fourteen hole Bowmaker competition was held on Saturday 19thNovember. The team of Debbie Hewitt, Jayne Worthington and Jane Muncer came first with 64 points. Followed by Sheila Marsh, Christine Clark and Lea Finding in second place with 60 points.
Press Report 13th November
A fourteen hole stableford competition was held on Saturday 5th November. Lea Finding came first with 29 points, followed by Paddy Challens and Jan Stephens in joint second place with 28 points each. The Ladies AGM was also held on Saturday 05 November at Cirencester Golf Club. Lady Captain, Emma Brereton’s presented the Captain’s brooch to incoming Lady Captain Jane Muncer.
A Bowmaker Competition was held on Thursday 10th November. The team of Jan Stephens, Jane Muncer and Meg Stewart came first with a score of 68 stableford points. In second place were Chris Moylan, Wendy Woodward and Deirdre Waddell with 62 points on countback from Val Bowley, Linda McIntosh and Margaret Davey.

Emma was very pleased that he accepted the invitation as presenting several of the more prestigious prizes to herself would have proved difficult. The hugely successful evening was the final event in a hugely successful year for Emma whohanded the reigns over to her Vice Captain Jane Muncer at the AGM on Saturday 5th. Press Report 21st October
The Cirencester leg of the Daily Mail Foursomes competition was played out over Thursday 13th and Saturday 15th October. Three teams came in with 37 Stableford points but first place on count-back was secured by Angela Canty and partner Helen Landau. Second was Jane Muncer and Sue Bremner with Sheila Telling and Lea Finding placed third.
The club foursomes, also held over both days was won with a fine 39 points by Deirdre Waddell and her partner June Gilbert. In second place with their 37 was Angela Canty and Helen Landau.
The past Lady Captains 14 hole Stableford competition was held and followed by lunch on Tues 18th. Meg Stewart secured the first place prize with 27 points. Angela Canty was second on count-back from Chris Parks, both with 24.
Press Report 10th October
The October medal was played out in extremely blustery conditions on Thursday 6th.
In first place in division 1 was Sally Hadley with a nett 75, Jane Muncer was second with 77. In Division 2 Gill Hunter was in top spot with her nett 73 with Jan Stephens second on 74. The Rabbits cup was contested by those holding handicaps of 30 or more. Venetia Champniss walked away with the cup with a nett 83, just beating Shirley Anderson on countback. The Gatrell Goblet was presented to the club in 1974 by Mrs Mary Gatrell. The winners of the eight summer medals plus four other qualifying stroke play competitions are entitled to enter this competition played after the October medal. This year the competition was held on Saturday 8th and the goblet won by Blanche Neal with a nett 73. Alison Henshaw was second with 74 Press Report 2nd October
A fun bowmaker competition was held on 29th September. The ladies set off in teams of three with the top two stableford scores counting. The triumphant trio were Liz Allen, Erika Brooke and Deirdre Waddell.
Our B Team finished the season top of Division 3, qualifying for promotion, whilst the A team after a very strong start, fell away but secured third place in division 1 This years Captains foursomes was won by Margaret Davey and Angela Canty who held off Penny Taylor and Blanche Neal; Sue Bremner beat Sheila Telling to take home the Ellett Cup but lost the Bailey Cup to Hilary Swan. Match result - B team against Stinchcombe home. Cirencester won 18-0
The September medal was contested on Saturday 17th. Blanch Neal topped Division 1 with her Nett 74 followed by Sheila Telling with 77
New member Anne Millard topped Division 2 with 82 Jan Flynn was second with 85

Ladies from several counties enjoyed a day at Cirencester golf club on Thursday 15th having been invited to the annual guest day by Cirencester ladies.
A relatively small field of 10 couples played a four ball betterball stableford competition on a beautiful sunny afternoon, before returning to the club house for well earned refreshments.
Jan Stephens and her guest Dorothy Hexter from Minchinhampton secured first place with their score of 43 and were duly presented with their reward by Jane Muncer, Cirencester's lady vice captain.PLEASE CLICK HERE FOR PHOTO

Match result - 5th September A team at home to Minchinhampton. Minchinhampton won 11-7
Annie Fisher walked away with both the Ritchie Salvers on the 4th September. The two salvers, presented to the club by Lin Ritchie in 1993 are awarded for the best Gross and Nett scores from a 36 hole medal stroke play competition played on one day. Annie topped both the Gross and Nett tables with her 168 gross and 144 Nett. The Autumn Scrutton Bowl Medal was contested in windy conditions on 9th September. The club stableford competition held on Thursday 1st September was played out in glorious sunshine. The winner of Division one was Linda McIntosh on 36 points with Val Bowley the runner up on 35 and Jill Briggs third with 34. Jayne Worthington stormed to the top of Division 2 with a super 41 points. She was two points clear of Liz Allen who continued her impressive run of form by returning 39 points. Erika Brooke was third with 38.
The Mercial Castle competiton, an 18 hole qualifier with the best cards going forward to county was won by Val Bowley with her 35 points with Jill Briggs Second. In Division 2 Liz Allen took top place with her 39 and Erika Brooke was second on 38. Press Report 29th August
Match result - Cirencester A Team at home to Cotswold Hills. Match drawn 9-9
At last the sun shone on a Thursday for the ladies to play the Macmillan Stableford on the 25th. In First place with 39 points which reduded her handicap was Paddy Challens. Also achieving handicap reductions was the returning Jae Berens and the in form Liz Allen who both notched up 38 Stableford points. Jae just clnched second place from Liz on countback of the back 9. The Lady Apsley Trophy was donated to the club in 1950 and was this year contested on 14th August by ladies in the Silver Division. Sue Bremner came away with the Trophy, returning a nett score of 70. Kay
Fullerton was second on 73. On the same day the Bronze Divison were invitied to take part in the W. S. Morrison Trophy competition. This cup was presented to the club by W S Morrison a past speaker of the House of Commons, also in 1950. Chris Keen won the competition with a Nett 70, well clear of Paddy Challens in second place with 78. Another Thursday downpour rather put the dampers on the Sprott Bowl competition on 18th August. Although the weather improved in the afternoon, Liz Allen, teeing off at 9.54 in the worst of the conditions, came away with the spoils. Liz came back with an impressive 40 Stableford points ahead of Alison Henshaw with 37. The Saturday Mcmillan Stableford on 20th August was won by Heather Morley 33 points. Paula Lester Powell was second with 24.

The afternoon ladies once again had the better conditions in the August Medal competition held on Thursday 11th with morning rain giving way to afternoon sunshine. However it was an early riser,
Jaquie Barcilon who topped Division 1 with an impressive nettt 67 achieved party through some brilliant putting - 22 putts over 18 holes. Jaquie was some way clear of second places Angela Canty who returned with a nett 70. In Division 2 Deirdre Waddell had her handicap reduced after securing first place with 68, Tricia Taylor was close behind with 69. Press Report 8th August
Cirencester Ladies could not have chosen a worst day to hold their Open but in any event a full field of 108 ladies from 28 clubs took part, in the extremely inclement weather, on Thursday 4th August.. The two teams placed first and second took advantage of the improving weather later in the day , with the winning team of Hilary Swan, and her guests, Fiona Smith and Jane Hancock from Cotswold Hills posting 81 Stableford points from a best two from three Bowmaker. In second place with 78 points were Sheila Telling and her guests Karen Jennings and Julia Pracey from Minchinghampton New. Katie Leith, playing with Wendy Davies-Hodgkiss and Jane Nicklin from Worcestershire just clinched third placed on countback with 77. Best
front nine was won by the Chippenham Team of Ruth Bridgewater, R Law and Vilma Chapman with 39 points with a Bath Team, Angela Trechard, Gillian Holdaway and Angela Frith taking the back nine with 43. The two nearest the pin prizes were awarded to Tracey Lee from Wrag Barn and Fiona Hudman from Tewkesbury Park. Sue Bremner certainly grabbed the opportunity to win the Extra Medal competition on Saturday 6th August, with a magnificent Nett 68 in division one. Sue was rewarded with not only a the medal but also a nice handicap reduction. In second place wass Blanch Neal with 69. Division two was headed by Jan Stephens who came back with a Nett 71 and long way clear of second place Paula Lester-Powell with 77. |
